The convergence of multimodal large language models, embodied reasoning, and robotic control has produced a new class of systems in which perception, language understanding, and action generation are learned within increasingly unified computational architectures. This paper examines multimodal large language model agents for intelligent robotic manipulation through the lens of vision-language-action learning. Rather than treating manipulation as a narrowly engineered control problem, the analysis frames it as a socio-technical infrastructure problem involving model architecture, data pipelines, real-time inference, safety governance, and long-term operational sustainability. The paper reviews foundational developments in transformers, vision-language pretraining, and robotic policy learning, then develops a system-level account of how multimodal agents integrate visual encoders, language backbones, action decoders, memory mechanisms, and tool-use interfaces. Particular attention is given to structural trade-offs among generalization, latency, interpretability, hardware cost, and safety assurance. The discussion considers deployment challenges in warehouses, hospitals, homes, and industrial settings, where reliability, fairness, and accountability become central design constraints. It also compares robotic manipulation with adjacent domains such as autonomous driving, digital assistants, and distributed industrial control. The paper argues that progress in vision-language-action learning will depend less on isolated model scaling than on coherent architecture, data governance, verification, and policy frameworks that make multimodal agency auditable and sustainable. The conclusion outlines research directions for robust, fair, and governable robotic manipulation systems that can operate credibly in open-ended human environments.
